This is a NJ deck restoration of a failed western red cedar finish.
This first picture is one year old Penofin stain, before we started work.
The following picture is the result of stripping the old Penofin off the cedar with a commercial sodium hydroxide stripper. This stripper was then neutralized with a food grade citric acid solution, which also brightened the cedar.
The final result after staining. Two separate applications of oil in the horizontal surfaces, one heavy application for the vertical cedar.
The stain is Ready Seal medium red. In my opinion, a bit too orange in toner for this cedar, but its what the customer selected.
