I have a home and garden show coming up and I need a few more before/after pictures for my booth. Anybody feeling charitable and willing to share? They need to be high resolution and of course not have any business info in them. Thanks in advance, TOM
There's no law that says I can't buy a gallon of spirits and swab a deck with it. This law is more aimed at manufacturers than installers. Not to mention, if you go to the TWP website they say you can legally thin the 200 series if you are installing on decking boards. Read more...
Thanks again, Scott. Wish I could have jumped on the TWP bandwagon sooner - but with the 100 series being a no-no in the northeast - and the scariness of using the 500 series on decks with it's non-drying issue, that left the 200 series. Which took 3+ weeks to settle down on my deck. With the 1500 series, I feel I have the quality of the 100 series with the VOC compliance that allows me to use it in the northeast.
So far between my previous 500 and 200 series decks, absolutley no mildew issues whatsoever!!!! And what I learned from the 200 series, is that you can overapply twp stains and it won't result in later failures like many other stains. The durability of the 200 on my deck is just simply amazing, and if 1500 is suppose to be better - I am going to have a lot of happy clients!
Scott, again thanks, without this product I was 90% positive about ending woodcare between all the problems I was having with other products. Read more...
This is a deck I just completed in the last week, it had several layers of Penofin - which turned charred black. I stripped it with a home brew of F-18/butyl downstreamed. There must have been some nasty silicone thrown in the mix as well - as the second application of stripper after rinsing the first layer didn't do anything. Next time will have a pump up with HD-80 for any tough remainder spots. But since I have a floor sander, I was able to get off any remaining tough areas.
It's been really hot, and this deck is in full sun - and I wanted a no flashing solution. So I took twp 200 and thinned it 50% and applied it as the first coat. Once I could walk back on it, both me and my helper applied the 1500 series straight all with a lambswool applicator.
I'd really like to thank Scott for turning me on to the TWP line of stains, I've been using it for a year now. The worst thing I have experienced is the amount of fading experienced from an application of the TWP 500 series stain. But the 200 series has no fading and I am assuming the 1500 being the replacement for 500 has any problems solved.
I also like the 1500 series because I purposely overapplied it to a mahogany table, and it will dry like semigloss, but the surface dries super hard like a varnish. That's perhaps the only drawback of the 1500, is it's tendency to be overapplied easily. Reason why I went with a thinned 200 series for the first coat on mahogany.
All my mildew issues have been solved, it's like night and day now. So it will be fun tweaking over the next few months how I like to apply the 1500 series. Whether I thin it or not, or perhaps go back to only single coating, or double coating but go back and rag any excess areas. We will see. Read more...
Using solid stains whether latex or the oil variety is common practice in house painting. Most painters think the stuff is just relabeled flat house paint. I guess there is some disagreement as to the true differences - but I've used solid latex stains with great success on homes. Read more...
